Position Summary

The Senior Aircraft Service Engineer reports to the assigned Manager of Engineering in Technical Operations. The Senior Aircraft Service Engineer will develop and provide 24/7 Engineering solutions for aircraft technical dispatch reliability, safety and airworthiness.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide Engineering support to Maintenance Control, Aircraft Maintenance, Quality, Planning, Materials for AOG and problematic aircraft
  • Develop repairs and technical substantiation for aircraft issues that exceed published limits by using Engineering methods and critical thinking for aircraft repairs and chronic defects
  • Provide options for repairing versus replacing a part to optimize financial impact
  • Develop customized procedures for repairs, modifications, inspections, servicing, and other maintenance actions, that have inadequate coverage in existing manuals
  • Prepare engineering documents such as Engineering Control (EC) including Engineering Orders (EO) and Engineering Authorizations (EA) to provide technical dispositions for repairs, modifications, inspection or other maintenance actions on aircraft and components
  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of 14 CFR Part 43, Major/Minor Determination and all
  • Engineering policies and procedures applicable to task
  • Work with ATA engineering teams to provide on-site support for prototype EC installation on aircraft.
  • Attend daily production meetings to ensure timely engineering support
  • Monitor out of service aircraft, delay reports, watch items, for any follow up
  • Provide on-site engineering assistance for significantly damaged aircraft
  • Develop typical repairs and manual supplements to eliminate repetitive technical requests
  • Assist in determining part effectivity and interchangeability
  • Reviews maintenance program and submit changes to address adverse aircraft system and reliability trends
  • Review OEM technical data and Jetblue reliability reports for corrective actions to Reliability Alerts, Safety Investigations
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in aeronautical/aerospace, mechanical or electrical engineering; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a High School Diploma/GED, FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate and at least four (4) years of previous relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of commercial aircraft systems, powerplant, structures and/or avionics.
  • Ability to safely formulate and substantiate temporary repairs/relief for defects not covered under OEM documents
  • Eight (8) years Engineering or technical experience
  • Three (3) years of diversified experience on transport category aircraft, work with and understand maintenance manuals, maintenance programs, and reliability programs
  • Knowledge of Airworthiness Directives, Service Bulletins, Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR’s) pertaining to 121 Air Carrier operations including Major/Minor repair determination
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Maintains a positive, can do attitude, self-starter
  • Strong verbal, written communication, attention to detail
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (10%)
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate
  • Certifications and/or experience in Continuous Improvement, Lean and/or Six Sigma
  • Knowledge and experience with the following: Aging Aircraft Programs, Reliability/Continuing Analysis Surveillance System (CASS), basic troubleshooting and Maintenance Programs
  • Experience in troubleshooting and interpreting wiring diagrams
  • Familiarity for with GSEs and all aircraft tooling
  • Knowledge of TRAX

Crewmember Expectations

  • Regular attendance and punctuality. This position requires shiftwork including evenings/night/ weekends/holidays.
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

Compensation: 

  • The base pay range for this position is between $81,000.00 and $136,200.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
