Position Summary

The Manager Systems Engineering reports to the Director Engineering and is responsible for providing administrative, engineering support, and oversight of the Systems Engineering department in addition to their engineering duties.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Review and action Airworthiness Directives (ADs) and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) to ensure compliance with applicable regulations
  • Review and disposition Technical Directives (Service Bulletins, Service Letters, All Operator Letters, etc.) in accordance with the JetBlue Technical Directive and Evaluation Procedures
  • Responsible for the understanding, periodic reviewing, implementing, updating and currency of the Systems portion of the Maintenance Program
  • Develop technical data required for modifications/repairs of aircraft systems and components. Obtains regulatory approval for modifications/repairs performed on JetBlue aircraft avionics systems and components
  • Provide engineering support as required including root cause analysis and corrective action for the disposition of discrepant conditions affecting aircraft and/or components so as to restore its serviceable status and to achieve JetBlue’s reliability and efficiency goals
  • Initiate the action required to ensure that source documents affected by engineering actions are updated to reflect current data, configuration and accuracy
  • Develop customized procedures and special criteria for repairs, modifications, inspections, servicing and other maintenance actions, which are not adequately addressed in existing manuals
  • Prepare and/or approve engineering documents such as Engineering Orders (EOs) and Engineering Authorizations (EAs) to provide technical dispositions for repairs, modifications, inspection or other maintenance actions, which provide benefits in accordance with airline/departmental objectives
  • Maintains awareness of Extended Twin Engine Operations (ETOPS) significant systems. Monitors and resolves technical issues associated with ETOPS operations. Assists the department to establish, administer and ensure the quality of the ETOPS Significant Systems Program. Assists the department to ensure ETOPS aircraft continue to meet requirements for configuration, maintenance and procedures for extended range operations
  • Interfaces with the Aircraft Manufacturer and other aircraft operators through steering committees, industry conferences and others to resolve fleet technical issues and maintain currency with fleet issues, techniques and practices
  • Evaluate new methods, materials and equipment, which may provide cost benefits and takes action to incorporate justified changes
  • Establish build specifications for aircraft avionics components
  • Coordinate with manufacturers and regulatory authorities as required and ensures engineering dispositions are properly substantiated in accordance with regulations and company manuals
  • Define and assign daily workload to qualified Engineers
  • Take a significant role in the development of crewmembers to support their engagement, growth, goal achievement, and career progression  
  • Ensure required resources are available to meet project requirements
  • Interact with all internal functions: Maintenance Programs, Reliability, Planning, Material, Maintenance, Quality, Technical Publications, Flight Operations, System Operations, etc.
  • Coordinates with stakeholders within Technical Operations to determine magnitude, scope and duration of proposed projects
  • Assist the General Manager Engineering in formulating the annual department budget
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Five (5) years of Transport Category (121) aircraft maintenance, quality and/or air carrier engineering experience
  • Working knowledge of Part 121 FARs
  • Experience building and managing a budget
  • Track record of capturing value and savings within a Technical Operations function
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Ability to prepare and present concise written, verbal reports and presentations
  • Excellent verbal, written, as well as strong analytical and time management skills
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (30%)
  • Currently in possession of a valid Passport with the ability to travel in and out of the United States
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge 
  • Depending on location, may need to acquire and maintain a United States Customs Clearance 
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience leading a team 
  • Valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe & Powerplant certificate
  • Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), processes and procedures
  • Experience with Airbus A320/321/220 & Embraer E190 Aircraft Systems
  • Understanding of aircraft specifications
  • Ability to work in a team environment, under pressure, in a demanding and fast-paced operation
  • Accountable and results driven

  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue’s Safety Management System

  • Identify safety and/or security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report (SAR))
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities 
  • The use of ChatGPT or any other automated tool during the interview process will disqualify a candidate from being considered for the position.

Compensation:

  • The base pay range for this position is between $125,000.00 and $150,000.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include performance bonuses, restricted stock units, as well as access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
