Position Summary 

The Analyst, Safety Analytics supports JetBlue’s Safety Department by monitoring, analyzing, and reporting safety trends, issues, and events from a variety of data sources for JetBlue’s Flight Safety Analysis Program (FOQA). The Analyst also codes algorithms and conducts analyses to identify hazards as an element of the Safety Risk Management component of JetBlue’s Safety Management System (SMS) framework. The Analyst serves as a technical subject matter expert on aircraft sensor data and technology, collaborating with teams across the airline and SMS structure to ensure alignment with JetBlue’s corporate objectives.

Essential Responsibilities 

  • Manipulate aircraft sensor data to automatically measures and monitor safety and operations occurrences by:
    • Designing algorithms;
    • Coding algorithms; and
    • Debugging algorithms
  • Perform, support, and review the monitoring and analyses of various sources of safety data, including: 
    • Crewmember reports of operational events and safety issues 
    • Data generated from internal safety programs across safety-critical areas (Flight Operations, Ground Operations, Technical Operations, Health & Safety, System Safety, and other programs) 
    • Aircraft sensor data
  • Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) data from other operating areas and safety programs including, but not limited to, aircraft sensor data, ASAP (Aviation Safety Action Program), flight planning, Fatigue, and SMS reporting programs
  • Develop automated business intelligence reporting tools, such as Tableau dashboards, to effectively monitor and communicate complex aircraft sensor data information to operations and safety managers
  • Produces relevant analytical information and data for use by operational managers for increased efficiencies, improved training, and the prevention of accidents and incidents
  • Perform ad-hoc statistical studies in support of airline operations
  • Generate routine and ad-hoc reports and presentations for all levels in the organization detailing analyses or study results 
  • Maintain safety performance and safety program metrics 
  • Provide Safety Analytics input to data review boards and working groups
  • Ensure adherence to all Safety and Security regulations
  • All other duties as assigned 

Minimum Experience and Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Safety, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, or other related field, or High School Diploma and currently enrolled in an accredited college on track to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • One (1) year of working, internship, or project experience with aviation management, data analysis, flight operations or other related field 
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office applications 
  • Ability to quickly learn new software and programming languages through training and self-study 
  • Available for overnight travel (10%)
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test 
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located 
  • Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

Preferred Experience and Qualifications 

  • Proficiency with relational database management systems programming (SQL, Oracle, etc.) 
  • Proficiency with statistics and statistical programming (R, Python, SAS, etc.) 
  • Proficiency with content management systems such as Microsoft Teams
  • Proficiency with a business intelligence tool (Tableau, SSRS, etc.) 
  • Experience setting up and executing data analyses and studies 
  • Ability to work effectively with professionals from diverse technical areas 
  • Strong organizational and planning skills 
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to liaise with other teams within and outside of JetBlue 
  • Publishing or article writing experience 
  • Working knowledge of regulations and industry trends governing commercial aviation safety, security, environmental, and employee health and safety 
  • Working knowledge of descriptive statistics and applied research methods 

Crewmember Expectations:  

  • Regular attendance and punctuality  
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short notice 
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance 
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft 
  • Must be an appropriate organizational fit for the JetBlue culture, that is, exhibit the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion, and Fun
  • Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue’s Safety Management System
  • Promote JetBlue’s #1 value of safety as a Safety Ambassador, supporting JetBlue’s Safety Management System (SMS) components, Safety Policy and behavioral standards
  • Identify safety and/or security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report (SAR))
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
  • The use of ChatGPT or any other automated tool during the interview process will disqualify a candidate from being considered for the position.

Compensation:

  • The base pay range for this position is between $50,000.00 and $89,600.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
