Position Summary

The Vice President JetBlue University oversees the development and delivery of all regulatory, operations and customer service training for JetBlue Crewmembers, including Flight Operations, Technical Operations, System Operations, Airports, Customer Support, and Inflight. The Vice President is responsible for ensuring that Crewmembers have the knowledge and skills required to execute the commercial, customer experience and operational strategy while also maintaining full compliance with all appropriate regulations and operational requirements.

 

The Vice President oversees the entire JetBlue University programs and facilities at both the Orlando and Salt Lake facilities, including the JetBlue Lodge. The Vice President is also an effective communicator who can build and maintain relationships at all levels within and outside the organization.  The Vice President leads efforts for third party training to other airlines, and, as the ranking executive in Florida, also acts as JetBlue’s representative to the local civic and business communities.   

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Establish and oversee strategic plans and initiatives for JetBlue University, ensuring alignment to key business objectives 
  • Oversee large-scale budget that supports the priorities for JetBlue University
  • Lead JetBlue University leadership team in managing the daily operation of the Orlando Support Center, as well as the training operations at the Salt Lake Support Center and other field locations
  • Partner with senior leaders across the organization to ensure that training for JetBlue Crewmembers fulfills all regulatory, customer experience and operational requirements for the work groups in Flight Operations, System Operations, Technical Operations, Customer Support, Airports and Inflight
  • Accountable to the President & COO and Director of Operations to meet all regulatory requirements regarding training, training delivery devices, and requisite records.
  • Partners with the customer experience team to develop and implement a hospitality training program
  • Oversee the JetBlue Lodge and business partner relationship
  • Serve as JetBlue’s ambassador and  the civic and business community in Florida
  • Oversee the development and sales of third-party training and flight simulator time to other airlines
  • Take a significant role in the development of crewmembers to support the engagement, growth, goal achievement, and development of the succession plan for the department
  • Will maintain qualification as per FAR 119.65(a)
  • Other duties as assigned 

 

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Education, or Aviation; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant experience
  • Ten (10) years’ experience in support of aviation operations
  • Five (5) years’ experience working in a regulatory environment
  • One (1) year FAR Part 121 experience
  • Knowledge of airline industry, including internal functions as well as regulatory requirements of external agencies (FAA, DOT, etc.)
  • Managing a cross-functional team/initiative
  • In possession of valid of travel documents with the ability to travel in and out of the United States
  • Available for frequent overnight travel (up to 50%)
  • Able to work flexible hours and be available for an emergency response on short notice
  • Must pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

 

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Five (5) years airline leadership experience
  • Three (3) plus years’ FAR Part 121 experience
  • Ability to qualify and remain current as a JetBlue pilot
  • Possesses Airline Transport Pilots license (ATP) license
  • Knowledge of regulatory training requirements for all operational groups of the airline
  • Knowledge of training device qualification practices
  • Experience with designing, delivering and management of regulatory training
  • Demonstrated ability to manage Business Partner relationships, including negotiations
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with local officials and business community leaders
  • Experience overseeing a large budget

  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue’s Safety Management System

  • Identify safety concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report (SAR))
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
