Position Summary

The Manager, Technical Operations( Tech Ops) Safety Program & Safety Management Systems (SMS) is responsible for the overall management, in close coordination with the Safety Department, of Tech Op’s Safety Program to include management of Tech Op’s Operational Safety Reporting and Investigations, Safety Data Analysis and Trending, Facilitation of Tech Risk Working Group, Change Management and Continuous Improvement, coordination of external audit findings and actions and IOSA gap analysis, DoD gap analysis and SMS implementation. 

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary resource for Tech Op’s Safety Program and general oversight of Tech Op’s workplace safety and aircraft damage minimization programs. Ensures that Tech Op’s Leadership and Safety Leadership are apprised of all significant safety issues and trends.
  • Oversees Tech Op’s SMS implementation and maintenance in conjunction with the Safety Department.
  • Coordinates, along with the Director Operational Safety & SMS, Tech Ops Risk Working Group, including managing the Risk Module in AQD to document risks, risk level, mitigation actions and departmental change management process.
  • Defines the Tech Op’s investigation protocol, in conjunction with Safety Department’s Safety Investigations team, and reviews safety incidents, conducts investigation as required by the protocol and performs root cause analysis to establish and implement mitigation where required.
  • Supports JetBlue’s confidential safety reporting program (SAR, ASAP, etc.) as a member of the Tech Op’s Action Report Review Team.
  • Leads the coordination of related IOSA & DoD Gap Analysis for their operational department as well as being Tech Op’s ‘in-audit’ led coordinator, OAL audits, regulatory audits, Code Share audits, and Internal Evaluation/Quality Audit findings as they relate and apply to the Tech Ops. This coordination will be in close coordination with the Safety Department and specifically the Internal Evaluation Team.
  • Reviews, tracks, analyzes and trends Tech Op’s Safety reports and related Safety Data and Leads Department’s Continuous Improvement (tracking, actioning, implementation of corrective / mitigating actions).
  • Generates regular reports on health of operational safety programs as well as key metrics and goals. 
  • Collect information to facilitate event investigation and root cause analysis. Investigatory efforts will include, but not be limited to, conducting Crewmember interviews, soliciting and reviewing written statements/reports, and researching technical reports and documents.
  • Take a significant role in the development of crewmembers to support the engagement, growth, goal achievement.
  • Responsible for the implementation and administration for frontline safety audit program (i.e. Safety Culture).
  • Co-Chairs the monthly Tech Ops VC Safety Committee meeting. 
  • Develops and produces safety promotions to include but not limited to: QDLs, ASAP Trend Alert (ATA) and MAT Chat.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or College certificate from a Technical School Program in Maintenance; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a High School Diploma/GED and at least six (6) years of previous relevant work experience.
  • Four (4) years of experience with SMS analysis, trending safety data, conducting safety investigation and risk assessment.
  • Experience and/or training in the conduct of safety investigations, root cause analysis, and the identification of potential contributing Human Factors precursors.
  • Experience identifying risk and implementing corrective actions.
  • Understanding of SMS and the FAA SMS rule.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, logically and coherently at various levels within the organization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • High level of organization & attention to detail.
  • Available for overnight travel (30%)  
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located.
  • Authorization to work in the US is required, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. 

 

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience in Operational Department Leadership role
  • Applicable Licenses and or Technical Certificates, applicable to airline Technical Operations

  • Regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice.
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance.
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue Flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft.

  • Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue’s Safety Management System.

  • Identify safety and/or security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report(SAR).
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls.
  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities.

  • Generally not required, or up to 10 pounds occasionally, 0 pounds frequently. (Sedentary)

 

Compensation:

  • The base pay range for this position is between $100,000.00 and $150,000.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include performance bonuses, restricted stock units, as well as access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
