Position Title: Manager, Labor Relations Counselor

Position Summary

The Manager is responsible for supporting the Labor Relations Department by providing advice, research and guidance related to Crewmember labor relations issues; the preparation and negotiation of agreements; and will be actively involved in collective bargaining. The Manager will also collaborate with Legal and Crew Relations with Crewmember investigations and will provide assistance in maintaining JetBlue’s Culture and positive relations with represented and non-represented Crewmembers.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Support the Labor Relations Department with related labor matters in both unionized and non-unionized work groups
  • Support Labor Relations Department with negotiations and administration of all collective bargaining agreements
  • Negotiates, drafts, reviews and finalizes settlement agreements involving unionized work groups
  • Liaise and collaborate with various work groups including but not limited to operating groups, Crew Relations, (HR), Compensation and Benefits, Crew Resources, Drug & Alcohol, and Legal
  • Assists in resolution of disputes involving unionized work groups including providing support in the mediation, arbitration and settlement of grievances
  • Performs research and analysis and preparation of memoranda related to Labor Relations issues
  • Take a significant role in the development of Crewmembers to support their engagement, growth, and goal achievement
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development Diploma (GED)
  • Juris doctorate and admission to the Bar of any state
  • Four (4) years of experience at a law firm or a corporate in-house legal department
  • Knowledge of Labor Relations laws and best practices
  • Extensive experience in drafting and negotiating agreements
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Excellent team, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work well under limited supervision in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (20%)
  • Must pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Admission to the Florida or New York Bars
  • Labor Relations experience within aviation or transportation world (RLA Experience)
  • Experience negotiating and/or interpreting settlement agreements and collective bargaining agreements
  • Experience representing clients in administrative hearings and labor mediation and/or arbitrations

Crewmember Expectations:

  • Regular attendance and punctuality with potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Identify safety concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report (SAR))
  • Adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
  • Upholding JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understanding how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
