Position Summary

The Analyst Safety Programs, acquires, assesses, and inputs data in support of JetBlue’s Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP), Safety Action Report (SAR), and Line Operations Safety Audit (LOSA) programs. Reporting to the Manager, Safety Programs, the Analyst interfaces with Operational ASAP and Safety Management System (SMS) analysts in conducting and coordinating standardized operating procedures.

 

The Analyst Safety Programs will support the administration of a data-driven system based upon scientific principles, which allows for continuous monitoring and management of safety risks associated with operational error in support of hazard identification, risk mitigation, and organizational learning. Particular emphasis is placed on data entry, tracking, and trending irregularities and identified hazards that might be precursors to an aircraft accident or incident, damage event, or crewmember injury.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Processes and inputs data for operational workgroup voluntary safety reporting programs. This entails data collection, assessment, analysis, and report processing for all Company Safety Action Report (SAR) and Aviation Safety Action Programs (ASAP)
  • Coordinates with the Operational SMS and ASAP analysts to maintain programmatic standardization of JetBlue’s ASAP & SAR, associated review processes, Event Review Committees (ERCs), and Report Review Teams (RRTs)
  • Supports workgroup Regulatory Compliance analysts and managers in data collection of any apparent violations under the Voluntary Disclosure Reporting Program (VDRP) and the tracking, and trending of comprehensive corrective action plans
  • Collaborate with departmental subject matter experts and operational analysts to produce quality analyses and deliverables and contributes to required reporting from each program
  • Support and conduct data analysis to provide in-depth insight into underlying contributing factors to data trends; interfaces with operating departments crewmembers to ensure analysis objectives and company data needs are met
  • Prepare factual and statistically sound analyses, reports, and briefings on safety trends and issues identified through the programs
  • Acquire, analyze, and input data in support of communications, reports, and newsletter articles
  • Provide Safety Program data input to support JetBlue’s Safety Review Board (SRB) and relevant Risk Working Groups (RWGs)
  • Participate in airline industry safety conferences, groups, and associations to include domestic and international travel
  • Adheres to all Safety and Security regulations
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation or a related field; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a combination of a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant work experience
  • One (1) year of analytical experience
  • Ability to conduct or support data and/or statistical analyses to provide meaningful and actionable insight that improves JetBlue’s safety performance
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Experience and/or training in Human Factors, aviation safety investigations, and Root Cause Analysis
  • Basic knowledge of regulations and standards governing commercial aviation (International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (IOSA)) and those governing aviation safety, security, environmental, and employee health and safety
  • Basic knowledge of 14 CFR Part 5 and Safety Management System (SMS) principles and applications
  • Ability to learn and understand new software in detail
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (10%)
  • Valid Passport or equivalent travel documents with the ability to travel in and out of the United States
  • Must pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

  • One (1) or more years of relevant aviation industry experience in safety and/or safety programs
  • Graduate-level coursework in aviation, aviation safety, or a related field
  • Formal safety management training, accident investigation training, or prior analyst experience working within an aviation Safety Investigations or ASAP program
  • Experience in aviation operations (FAA certificated Pilot, Airframe & Powerplant (A&P), Dispatcher and/or work experience in an operational role at an air carrier or aircraft Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM))
  • Broad knowledge of aviation reporting systems, safety principles, and Just Culture
  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and management skills
  • Ability to work under stress in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable Crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Identify safety and/or security concerns, issues, incidents, or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary, including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program [ASAP] or Safety Action Report [SAR])
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.), and Company policies, procedures, and risk controls
  • Ensure adherence to all Safety and Security regulations
  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
