Position Summary
The Analyst, Flt Ops Safety SMS & Pilot ASAP supports Flight Operations compliance with JetBlue Safety Management System (SMS) policies, procedures and risk controls including safety reporting programs (Safety Action Reports/SAR and Pilot ASAP), safety risk management, safety assurance, and safety promotion activities for Flight Operations. The Analyst, Flt Ops Safety SMS & Pilot ASAP will be responsible for the administration of Flight Operations Safety data and reports including intake/triage support, tracking, analysis, and recordkeeping of safety reports, hazards, risk assessments, investigations, and corrective actions. The Analyst, Flt Ops Safety SMS & Pilot ASAP monitors and reports on the implementation of strategies, initiatives and best practices, under the delegated authority of the Manager, Flt Ops Safety SMS & Pilot ASAP and plays a role in incident investigations and subsequent mitigation strategies.
Essential Responsibilities
- Manages Flight Operations Safety related AQD data, and other safety reporting program databases ensuring data integrity and appropriate handling of sensitive information
- Supports administration of Flight Operations Safety reporting programs (e.g., Safety Action Reports/SAR and Pilot ASAP), including report intake/triage, tracking, follow-up coordination, and feedback loops, as directed by the Manager
- Maintains required SMS documentation and records (e.g., hazard tracking, risk assessments, investigations, corrective actions) in accordance with 14 CFR Part 5 recordkeeping requirements and audit readiness expectations
- Monitors and reports on implementation of programs and procedures to mitigate Crewmember and aircraft incidents, as well as regulatory violations
- Conduct risk assessment of potential operational hazards
- Develop mitigation controls of identified hazards
- Tracks safety risk control implementation and assists with monitoring effectiveness (e.g., action tracking, closure evidence, and trend indicators) and prepares status summaries for Flight Operations leadership forums
- Supports the change management process for changes occurring within Flight Operations and external teams including documenting/maintaining associated safety risk assessments and tracking assigned actions, as directed
- Serves as a liaison between Flight Operations and teams within Corporate Safety
- Ensures communication flow of information from Flight Operations Safety between Flight Operations Programs and JetBlue University College of Flight Operations including safety communications, lessons learned, and program updates that support SMS awareness and safety-critical information dissemination
- Supports ground event investigations
- Analyzes data from events, self-assessments, inspections and audits to identify trends and recommend corrective actions
- Supports root cause analysis and corrective action development to improve operational safety performance
- Assists in the administration of the Pilot Aviation Safety Action Program including report processing support, ERC coordination support, de-identification handling, tracking corrective actions/training outcomes, and aggregate trending/metrics support, as directed by the Manager, Flt Ops Safety SMS & Pilot ASAP
- Additional duties to assist/facilitate essential responsibilities of the Manager, Flt Ops Safety SMS & Pilot ASAP
- Collect information to facilitate event investigation and root cause analysis. Investigatory efforts will include, but not be limited to, conducting Crewmember interviews, soliciting and reviewing written statements/reports, and researching technical reports and documents
- Ensure adherence to all Safety and Security regulations
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Safety, Aeronautical Science, Aviation Management, or another related field; OR a demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a High School Diploma/GED and four (4) years of relevant work experience
- One (1) year data analysis experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
- Ability to handle sensitive/confidential safety information with discretion
- Able to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet team deadlines
- Able to follow safety guidelines
- Able to perform under pressure and within fixed time constraints
- Available for occasional overnight travel (10%)
- Must pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
- Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
- Authorization to work in the US is required, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
- One (1) year employment experience with a Part 121 carrier
- One (1) year experience Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP)
- Familiarity with 14 CFR Part 5 SMS concepts (SRM, safety assurance, safety promotion, documentation/records)
- Experience and/or training in the conduct of safety investigations, root cause analysis, and the identification of potential contributing Human Factors precursors
- Experience in Aviation Quality Database (AQD) or similar database programs
- Proficient in SharePoint, MS Project, Visio, Power BI / Tableau, and/or any other data visualization tools
- Must be able to communicate effectively to large groups, and to all levels of management and various departments
