Position Title: Senior Manager Risk Management
Position Summary
The Senior Manager, Risk Management leads JetBlue’s enterprise risk strategy related to insurance programs, claims management, and Workers' Compensation. This leadership role combines operational oversight, strategic risk mitigation, and people leadership to ensure a seamless, cost-effective, and caring approach to all risk-related matters. The Senior Manager is accountable for optimizing claims outcomes, managing Workers’ Compensation and operational claims, leading risk financing strategies, and fostering strong partnerships with key stakeholders. This role also manages and develops high-performing teams, ensuring alignment with JetBlue’s values and business objectives.
Essential Responsibilities
- Oversee JetBlue’s enterprise insurance programs (Property, Cyber, Directors & Officers (D&O), Workers' Compensation, Aviation, etc.) ensuring coverage adequacy, optimal pricing, and alignment with business exposures
- Serve as a strategic thought partner to senior leadership on emerging risk trends, insurance strategies, and claims management best practices
- Maintain awareness of global insurance market conditions and regulatory trends to proactively adjust strategies
- Represent Risk Management and partner with key stakeholders across JetBlue on company-wide initiatives, steering committees, and operational response teams, such as Business Continuity and Emergency Response (BCER)
- Champion continuous improvement efforts to enhance efficiency, service delivery, and cost control across all areas of responsibility
- Lead all renewal processes, submissions, audits, and negotiations in partnership with internal stakeholders, brokers, and insurers
- Provide contractual risk transfer guidance and review insurance provisions in complex agreements, leases, and partnerships
- Ensure accurate and timely management of Certificates of Insurance and insurance identification materials
- Lead the oversight of all Workers’ Compensation programs, with accountability for claim outcomes, carrier performance, and cost containment strategies
- Oversee operational claims (first and third-party) with direct involvement in high-exposure, catastrophic, or sensitive cases.
- Establish best-in-class processes for advocacy-based claims handling, ensuring alignment with JetBlue’s Caring value and delivering exceptional crewmember support
- Maintain robust partnerships with external claims administrators, brokers, service providers and internal stakeholders to ensure risk strategies align with corporate objectives
- Develop and manage department budgets for insurance premiums, claim reserves, and risk services
- Provide accurate and timely reports to senior leadership on risk exposure, claims trends, financial performance, and key risk indicators
- Leverage data analytics to identify emerging risks, recommend strategies for risk reduction, and measure program performance
- Take a significant role in the development of crewmembers to support their engagement, growth, and goal achievement
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business, Insurance, or a related field; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a combination of a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous related work experience
- Eight (8) years of progressive experience in Risk Management, Insurance, Workers’ Compensation, or related roles
- Three (3) years of people leadership experience, with a proven ability to lead high-performing teams
- Comprehensive knowledge of insurance coverages (Property, Cyber, D&O, Workers’ Compensation, Aviation, etc.)
- Strong experience in claims handling (Workers' Compensation, Property, Liability) and carrier/third party administrator (TPA) oversight
- Strong financial acumen related to insurance budgeting, claims reserves, and cost modeling
- Available for overnight travel (10%)
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test
- Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
- Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
- Advanced certifications such as Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), or Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP)
- Aviation industry experience
- High proficiency with Risk Management Information Systems (RMIS), Excel, and reporting tools
- Demonstrated success leading risk or claims programs through significant organizational change or crisis
- Excellent verbal and written communication

- Regular attendance and punctuality
- Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short notice
- Able to maintain a professional appearance
- When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

- Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue’s Safety Management System

- Identify safety and/or security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report (SAR))
- Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
- Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
- The use of ChatGPT or any other automated tool during the interview process will disqualify a candidate from being considered for the position

Compensation:
- The base pay range for this position is between $100,000.00 and $156,600.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include performance bonuses, restricted stock units, as well as access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
