Position Title: Manager Technical Accounting (Fleet)

 

Position Summary

The Manager of Fleet Accounting is responsible for the accounting, analysis, policies, procedures, and controls associated with the aircraft fleet.  This includes aircraft and engine purchases, sales, leases and modifications.  This position will also oversee the accounting for aircraft related spare parts inventory and maintenance expenses. The role involves working collaboratively with technical operations, engineering, materials, fleet strategy, treasury, financial planning and analysis, and legal to provide accounting guidance, budget variance analysis, and contract review to ensure proper accounting.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead the team responsible for the accounting of Aircraft Fleet (owned and leased), spare parts inventory, related depreciation/amortization, impairment assessments and maintenance agreements
  • Depreciation budget, forecast and variance analysis
  • Partner with Fleet Strategy, Treasury and Technical Operations on fleet and maintenance transactions providing accounting guidance on corporate initiatives
  • Review aircraft purchase, sale, lease, modification and maintenance contracts to determine proper accounting and make recommendations
  • Preparation of technical accounting memos as needed
  • Maintain reconciliation of fixed asset and spare parts inventory systems to general ledger
  • Establish accounting policy and procedures, as well as adequate internal controls over areas of responsibility
  • Assist in the preparation of the footnote and MD&A support for Company’s Security Exchange Commission (SEC) filings and assist with other regulatory reporting as needed
  • Respond to internal and external auditor requests
  • Recommend improvements to the efficiency of the accounting process and timeliness of deliverables
  • Take a significant role in the development of crewmembers to support the engagement, growth, and goal achievement 
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant work experience
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Five (5) years accounting or aviation finance
  • Able to travel and/or work variable hours, flexible shifts, including holidays and weekends
  • Solid understanding of accounting theory and United States Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and organizational skills, with a strong attention to detail
  • Able to work flexible hours and be available for emergency response and on short notice
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (10%)
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Previous Aircraft, engine and spare parts inventory accounting experience
  • Knowledgeable in technical operations maintenance contracts and expenses
  • Aviation fleet experience (OEM, lessor or airline)
  • Airline accounting experience

  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue’s Safety Management System

  • Identify safety concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) and Safety Action Report (SAR)) 
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls  
  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities

Compensation: 

  • The base pay range for this position is between $80,000.00 and $150,000.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include performance bonuses, restricted stock units, as well as access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
