Position Summary
The Manager, Schedule Reliability and Optimization position supports the Director, Operations Strategy and Engineering on projects involving schedule analytics, line of flight analysis, schedule optimization and block time forecasting. The Manager oversees and applies analysis and simulation techniques to predict operational performance of proposed airline schedules and uses data driven methods to recommend changes to airline schedules in development. This position is accountable to key internal stakeholders in Enterprise Planning, Network Planning, Financial Planning, and the Executive Leadership Team.
Essential Responsibilities
- Develop and utilize analytical tools to predict on time performance of flight schedules proposed
- Optimize proposed schedules for on time performance or other operational goals by applying optimization modeling
- Use data driven methods to provide analysis on impact of schedule changes and investments to various on time performance metrics
- Continuously review schedule identifying areas of improvement aimed at improving on time performance
- Continuously refine block time modeling methodology to ensure block targets are met and forecasts best reflect operational realities - oversee and identify opportunities to tighten distribution of actual block time performance and maximize system reliability by applying optimization modeling
- Oversee and guide cross-departmental project teams to define, analyze, and recommend processes aimed at improving schedule reliability and on time performance
- Act as source of truth for all schedule related statistics providing data/insights as needed
- Build and maintain dashboards to allow other teams access to schedule information/modeling – aimed at ensuring operability of schedules and improved on-time performance
- Support JetBlue’s operational reliability strategy
- Take a significant role in crewmember professional development to enhance engagement, growth, and goal achievement
- All other duties, as assigned
Minimum Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Operations Research, Quantitative Analysis, Engineering (any), Mathematics or a related field; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a combination of a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous related work experience
- Five (5) years’ experience in roles relevant to position
- Experience and advanced knowledge in simulation, statistical analysis, mathematical modeling, and process improvement
- Capable at database querying (SQL) and/or high-level programming languages such as Python, R, or Visual Basic
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Spotfire)
- Experience in communicating data driven technical analysis to senior leadership
- Strong airline business acumen
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
- Available for occasional overnight travel (10%)
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test
- Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
- Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
- Advanced degree (M.S., M.E., or PhD) in Operations Research, Quantitative Analysis, Engineering (any), Mathematics or related field
- Three (3) years of airline or aviation industry experience
- Knowledge and/or experience with best practices throughout the airline industry

- Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
- Able to maintain a professional appearance
- When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

- Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
- Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities

Compensation:
- The base pay range for this position is between $114,000.00 and $170,000.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include performance bonuses, restricted stock units, as well as access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
