Position Summary
The Manager Reliability reports to the Director Engineering and is responsible for the development and analysis of alerts and insights to identify technical issues, trends, and defect root causes that enable data-driven decision making for JetBlue’s fleet of aircraft, engines and components. The Manager monitors impact of implemented technical solutions in support of the Reliability portion of the Continuing Analysis Surveillance System (CASS) as well as monitoring fleet health in accordance with the JetBlue Continuous Airworthiness Maintenance Program (CAMP) and the Reliability Program. This position also provides direction and oversight of the Reliability Department.
To be successful in the role, you must be able to collaborate with cross-functional teams to lead a team that is able to manage major programs and concurrently drive technical execution across multiple projects and stakeholder groups. This role will also support departmental goals including crewmember engagement initiatives to drive positive change and influence.
Essential Responsibilities
- Responsible for technical development and administration of the JetBlue Reliability Program ensuring compliance with FAA requirements
- Collect and clean data, and perform data validation and reporting tasks for analytical systems and applications and interpret data from various sources (e.g. Trax, Aviatar, Skywise, ACMS, ACARS, FOMAX, AHM) to review, monitor, and evaluate systems, structures, and component performance
- Develop and maintain the Aircraft Reliability Index (ARI)
- Design and develop advanced data mining, forecasting, estimation, simulation, and/or optimization models
- Proactively identify operationally sensitive issues in the fleet with operational, commercial, or financial impact, and perform thorough analysis of emerging fleet technical issues / in-service reliability impact events
- Lead analysis and validation of statistical, forecasting, and optimization models for prognostic, benchmarking, and low time components failures, including setting trigger limits such as UCLS
- Analyze technical data from the Aircraft Maintenance Logs, the Maintenance & Engineering (M&E) computer system, aircraft service records and shop finding reports to determine cause and failure trend
- Produce and distribute a Monthly Reliability Report used to monitor and evaluate the mechanical performance of the JetBlue fleet. Create, investigate, and follow up on reliability alert levels
- Produce Category II/III and Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum (RVSM) reliability reports used to determine system performance and failure trends in support of JetBlue Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved Category II/III and RVSM Operations Specification requirements
- Provide on-demand technical reports for all disciplines as needed to evaluate aircraft, powerplant and component reliability performance
- Take a significant role in the development of crewmembers to support their engagement, growth, and goal achievement
- Support Engineering with data analysis to support problem resolution
- Collaborate with other engineering managers and engineers, and assist the Director with continued development of the Engineering processes, including efforts toward automation and increased use of aircraft data
- Maintain awareness of Extended Twin-Engine Operations (ETOPS) significant systems and resolve issues associated with ETOPS operations. Assist the department in establishing, administering, and ensuring the quality of the ETOPS Significant Systems Program. Assist the department to ensure ETOPS aircraft continue to meet requirements for configuration maintenance and procedures for extended range operations
- Support warranty claims for components that do not meet reliability or on-wing performance guarantees
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other engineering technical discipline with at least six (6) years of experience applying reliability analytics in Aviation sector. Bachelor’s degree requirement may be substituted with an additional three (3) years of direct experience providing aircraft engineering and technical support in an airline environment
- Proficient with data analysis tools such as Python, Excel, Tableau and SQL
- Experience with project execution, teamwork experience, and ability to work across all functions/levels as part of a team
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to understand complex business requirements and define key performance metrics to measure benefits and communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner
- Demonstrated familiarity with the airline, transportation, or related industry
- Demonstrated familiarity with aircraft systems, engines, and components
- Demonstrated familiarity with common Aircraft Maintenance Technician practices, including component replacements, aircraft servicing, troubleshooting, inspections, and testing
- Reliability analysis skills to identify root cause of systems problems
- Demonstrated completion of feasibility studies, aircraft surveys, development of technical solutions, and preparation of technical documents and submittals
- Demonstrated participation on industry working groups to represent JetBlue’s interests in various airworthiness, reliability, cost and operational problems
- Ability to interpret sophisticated and technical engineering and original equipment manufactuer (OEM) documents
- Computer literate in Microsoft software such as Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Project
- Possess reliability analysis skills to identify root cause of systems problems
- Excellent decision making and problem-solving skills
- Available to work a flexible work schedule required including shift, weekend, and holidays
- Able to read, write, and speak English fluently
- Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge
- Available for overnight travel (20%)
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test
- Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located

Preferred Experience and Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, or Engineering
- Three (3) years of experience with direct reports overseeing, training and coaching other team members
- Valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant Certificate
- Airbus experience
- Proficient with Microsoft Office power apps
- Possess reliability analysis skills to identify root causes of system problems
- Excellent decision making and problem-solving skills
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong analytical abilities
- Able to communicate technical issues in an assertive and tactful manner
- Project management skills
- Able to manage and coordinate several tasks and projects simultaneously

Compensation:
- The base pay range for this position is between $80,000.00 and $136,200.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include performance bonuses, restricted stock units, as well as access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
