Manager Litigation Counsel
Position Summary:
The Manger Litigation Counsel will be responsible for managing and working the insured litigation portfolio as well as certain complex litigations and related matters as well as assist in handling certain federal, state and local legal regulatory matters, (both compliance and enforcement). This position will report to the Vice President, Associate General Counsel and will ensure efficient and consistent representation of the airline’s interests.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Oversee uninsured litigation matters and other complex litigations and matters
- Mange various outside counsel in litigation or litigation related tasks and duties
- Liaise with outside insurance partners as well as the JetBlue Risk Management Department and multiple other JetBlue departments in defending against claims and in engaging in proactive advocacy to prevent litigation
- Monitor and coordinate where appropriate responses to subpoenas (civil and criminal) non-party demands, discovery demands and third-party requests for crewmembers or corporate information
- Assist as necessary in matters involving U.S. federal, state and local government agencies, including Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Defense (DOD), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Support regulatory efforts of industry trade groups, including Airlines for America (A4A) and International Air Transportation Association (IATA)
- Provide legal guidance and comments on proposed and active regulations
- Counsel internal clients regarding relevant regulations and industry developments and trends, and support the drafting of related company policies and procedures
- Support the drafting and filing of regulatory compliance submissions to government agencies
- As necessary assist in representing and defending JetBlue in all regulatory investigations and enforcement actions, including before the DOT, FAA, TSA, CBP, EPA, and OSHA
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Experience and Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate and admission to the Bar of any state or the District of Columbia
- Five years (5) of relevant experience at a law firm, government agency and/or as in-house counsel with experience in handling civil litigations as well as involvement in Alternative Dispute Resolution processes (ADR)
- Available for occasional overnight travel (10%)
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test
- Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
- Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship
Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
- Admission to the New York Bar
- Experience in aviation litigation and aviation regulatory matters (e.g., DOT, FAA and TSA)
- Experience interacting with federal and state governmental agencies, including DOT, FAA and TSA.
- Experience leading a team of lawyers, paralegals and other support professionals

- When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

- Identify safety and security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) and Safety Action Report (SAR))
- Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
- Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
- The use of ChatGPT or any other automated tool during the interview process will disqualify a candidate from being considered for the position

Compensation:
- The base pay range for this position is between $81,000.00 and $136,200.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include performance bonuses, restricted stock units, as well as access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more
