Position Title: Manager Labor & Employment Counsel

Position Summary

The Manager Labor & Employment Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice and guidance related to collective bargaining labor relations, employment matters, and contractual dispute resolution/grievance processes and procedures.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide support for Labor Relations Team and operational leadership on union-related issues
  • Counsel leadership on labor disputes, including employee discipline and work rule disputes
  • Support collective bargaining agreement negotiations
  • Represent company in grievance hearings, mediations and arbitrations before the System Board of Adjustment
  • Manage outside legal counsel retained to provide assistance in labor and employment issues
  • Counsel and support the People team on wide range of employment issues, employment discrimination and other administrative charges and employment litigation
  • Prepare and conduct trainings on various labor law topics, including dispute resolution, employee discipline and positive crew relations
  • Support strategy for Preserve the Direct Relationship (PDR), including union avoidance
  • Draft, review, and revise people-related company policies and procedures
  • Negotiate and review employment agreements
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Juris doctorate and admission to the Bar of any state
  • Five (5) years of experience at a law firm or a corporate in-house legal department with unionized workgroups
  • Extensive knowledge of labor and employment laws and best practices
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating collective bargaining agreements
  • Experience representing clients in labor and employment related administrative hearings, mediations and arbitrations
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office XP applications
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent team and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well under limited supervision in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (10%)
  • Must pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Admission to the New York Bar
  • Experience negotiating and/or interpreting employment agreements
  • Experience with international employment/labor laws and past work with other local counsel in different countries
  • Spanish language skills

  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Well-groomed and able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
  • Upholding JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understanding how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
