Manager Analytics Engineering


Position Summary

The Manager, Analytics Engineering leads a team of Analytics Engineers to transform JetBlue’s raw data into consumable information by applying software engineering best practices to the production and maintenance of analytics code. The individual has deep expertise in SQL, dimensional modeling for business intelligence, and git and version control. The Manager will be responsible for JetBlue’s DBT (data build tool) repository and must evangelize the tool internally. The Manager will have close collaboration with partners across the company to understand and address their needs, and therefore the Manager must be dependable, responsive, and have good interpersonal skills.


JetBlue’s Data Team is fast-growing and has been tasked at the senior-most level to tackle some of the highest-impact challenges faced by the business. The Manager reports to the Director, IT Data Science & Analytics (Data Team).


Essential Responsibilities

  • Work with the business to understand problems, DBAs to understand data sources, and play the pivotal role of architecting data models to respond to Crewmember needs
  • Lead all aspects of the DBT repository and develop the analytics workflow process
  • Coordinate requirements gathering, roadmap feasibility, and other parts of the data modeling process
  • Demonstrate data modeling best-practices by building exemplary data models in DBT
  • Ensure thorough documentation that is accessible to analysts and other partners
  • Build and monitor the analytics CI / CD pipeline/
  • Triage reported bugs and communicate deficiencies back to the business
  • Cultivate a collaborative relationship between the IT Product Team and IT Infrastructure who own the application data sources
  • Be a strong advocate for a culture of process and data quality across development teams
  • Follow an agile development methodology
  • Take a significant role in the development of crewmembers to support the engagement, growth, goal achievement
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or a quantitative discipline
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience in a data role working with data warehouses and business intelligence tools
  • Mastery of SQL
  • Experience using DBT in a company setting
  • Experience with git and git-based workflows
  • Must pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located


Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience with Fivetran, Stitch, Snowflake, and Microsoft Azure
  • Experience working with SQL Server, Oracle, SAP, and Pervasive
  • Prior airline experience

  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Well-groomed and able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Identify safety and/or security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report(SAR))
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
