Position Summary

The Manager, Engine Programs Operations reports into the Senior Manager Engine Programs and is responsible for the management of the Engine Programs Repairs and Lease team. This monitors the performance of Engine and Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services, including Leases. The Manager will oversee the execution of Technical Operations Powerplant Repair and Lease processes in support of JetBlue’s overall long-term powerplant maintenance strategy. This position interacts with a variety of business partners and JetBlue crewmembers to achieve high quality services, on-time delivery and competitive maintenance costs. The role involves working closely with Manager of Engine Procurement Programs, JetBlue Engineering, Strategic Sourcing, Legal, Corporate Finance and Treasury, among other groups.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist and execute on the MRO strategy for existing and future engine maintenance programs
  • Assist in the development of a long-term engine strategy, working alongside the Engine Programs Strategy team and other Technical Operations groups
  • Manage Engine maintenance projects and transactions involving Engine Leases, Engines and Engine Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) Repairs
  • Conduct analysis on, and present recommendations to executive leadership for all engine platforms
  • Support the Engine Programs Strategy team with preparing and conducting negotiations on existing and future engine maintenance agreements
  • Build and maintain relationships with existing and potential future business partners, including engine manufacturers and engine maintenance providers
  • Develop and execute a business partner (BP) management process and scorecard to drive BP performance, including use of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Lead, develop and train a team of crewmembers and crewleaders with a focus on structured processes, continuous improvement, and career path development
  • Manage the process of monitoring JetBlue and MRO data; identify performance issues and implement corrective action plans with the BP and internal stake holders
  • Build and maintain a process to identify, assess, execute and track cost savings initiatives that reduce JetBlue Cost per Available Seat Mile (CASM), including processes that speed up shop repairs and minimize "over and above" and “out of scope” costs
  • Lead the management of Repair agreements to ensure BPs perform at contract-defined levels of service. Ensure all JetBlue contractual entitlements are obtained, including discounts, exchanges, loaners and Beyonce Economic Repair (BER) replacements, as applicable
  • Manage the onboarding and offboarding of Leases for all Engine Platforms
  • Provide guidance during the budget process
  • Support monthly Accounting reviews and timely approval of quotes and invoices
  • Ensure adherence to all aspects of JetBlue’s Safety Management System (SMS)
  • Take a significant role in the development of crewmembers to support their engagement, growth, and goal achievement
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Engineering; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a combination of a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous related work experience
  • Five (5) years of aviation finance and/or aviation maintenance experience
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong analytical and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal and written interaction to effectively manage project communications and stakeholder expectations at all levels of the organization including executive leadership
  • Experience leading small to medium sized teams
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (20%)
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

 

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business (including Accounting, Economics and Finance) or Engineering
  • Six (6) years of aviation finance and/or aviation maintenance experience
  • Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license
  • Knowledgeable in aviation maintenance contracts and expense structures
  • Experience in negotiating and managing aviation maintenance contracts
  • Specific experience with engine maintenance, engine manuals and documentation
  • Experience with project management cross functional teams
  • Knowledge of Tech Ops Maintenance costs, budgeting, and trend analysis
  • Experience managing aircraft component repair processes
  • Knowledge of Maintenance & Engineering database systems (such as Trax)
  • Knowledge of corporate finance, cost accounting, asset management, and financial forecasting

  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue’s Safety Management System

  • Identify safety and/or security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report(SAR))
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
  • The use of ChatGPT or any other automated tool during the interview process will disqualify a candidate from being considered for the position.

Compensation:

  • The base pay range for this position is between $80,000.00 and $136,200.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include performance bonuses, restricted stock units, as well as access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
