Position Summary

The Manager, Block Time Planning position supports the Director, Operations Strategy and Engineering on projects involving block time forecasting, analytics and updates.  The manager oversees and applies forecasting and modeling techniques, and statistical analysis to support the airline’s block (B0) strategy.  This position is also accountable to key internal stakeholders in Enterprise Planning, Network Planning, Schedule Planning, Financial Planning, Operations Planning, and the Executive Leadership Team.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Refine block time modeling methodology and update regularly so that block forecasts best reflect potential operational realities.
  • Define improvement opportunities with operational teams to improve processes to drive more consistent B0 performance across the operational spectrum (i.e. blue sky days to irregular operations) with the goal to improve operational efficiency.
  • Oversee and identify opportunities to tighten the distribution of actual block time performance and maximize system reliability by applying optimization modeling.
  • Review and establish business cases in support of corporate initiatives; provide the forecasted benefits using various analytical and simulation tools
  • Review and conduct sensitivity analysis for Corporate Initiatives using various simulation and mathematical tools
  • Review and apply data analysis to provide perspective on problem scope, impact, and recommendations to key stakeholders
  • Oversee and guide cross-departmental project teams to define, analyze, and recommend improved processes
  • Support strategy for JetBlue operational reliability
  • Take a significant role in crewmember professional development to enhance engagement, growth, and goal achievement.
  • All other duties, as assigned

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Operations Research, Quantitative Analysis, Engineering (any), Mathematics or a related field; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant experience
  • Five (5) years’ experience in roles utilizing undergraduate degree 
  • Experience and advanced knowledge in simulation, statistical analysis, mathematical modeling, and process improvement
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Spotfire)
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (10%)
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (M.S., M.E., or PhD) in Operations Research, Quantitative Analysis, Engineering (any), Mathematics or related field
  • Three (3) years airline or aviation industry experience
  • Strong capabilities with database querying (SQL) and/or high-level programming languages such as Python, R or Visual Basic
  • Experience communicating with senior leadership

  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance

  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Identify safety and/or security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary, including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report (SAR))
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities

Work Environment:

  • Standard office environment.
  • Present during core business hours with extended hours when operationally necessary.

Physical Effort: 

  • Generally not required, or up to 10 pounds occasionally, 0 pounds frequently. (Sedentary)

Compensation:

  • The base pay range for this position is between $81,000.00 and $136,200.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include performance bonuses, restricted stock units, as well as access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
