Manager, Benefits

 

Position Summary

The Manager of Benefits is accountable for the strategy, design, implementation, communication and administration of all Benefits programs.  The Manager will leverage in-depth knowledge of both best in class & best practices to innovate our offerings.  The Manager will be responsible for applying knowledge of benefits regulations, coupled with creativity and partner closely with Payroll, Finance, Legal, and external business partners for complex issue resolution.  This position will support the Director of Benefits and is accountable for identifying operational efficiencies and opportunities; both fiscal & progressive.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Ownership of administration of JetBlue’s benefit programs (retirement/health & welfare/compliance/leave of absence) the development of program provisions that align with JetBlue’s values, the development of communications, and the creation and maintenance of associated policies

  • Provide guidance to Direct Reports relating to programs, staffing and customer service

  • Manage benefits programs to ensure they are efficient, competitive, and compliant with legal requirements

  • Oversee development and distribution of Crewmember communications including regulatory notices and Summary Plan Descriptions

  • Identify potential compliance risks and develop solutions

  • Develop and manage processes and tools to enable annual benefits enrollment

  • Deliver thoughtful recommendations supported by analysis to progress the evolution of our programs

  • Support the delivery of ad-hoc projects and reporting which will include research, analysis and the development of recommendations

  • Manage relationships with external business partners ensuring that service quality is optimized

  • Oversee system enhancements/changes with business partners as well as internally with HRIS

  • Take a significant role in the development of Crewmembers to support their engagement, growth, and goal achievement

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Five (5) years of experience in administering benefit programs in a complex environment (retirement plans and leave of absence management)

  • Four (4) years’ experience managing the development of people with multiple direct reports

  • In-depth knowledge of relevant federal, state and local laws and regulations and administrative best practices.

  • Experience managing health and welfare budgets

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Ability to work independently and prioritize, with thorough attention to detail

  • Collaborative approach to working with internal customers and experience managing external business partners

  • Flexible and adaptable to a new environment

  • Proficient Microsoft Office Suite and extensive Excel experience

  • Proficient in HRIS systems

  • Available for overnight travel (10%)

  • Valid travel documents with the ability to travel in and out of the United States

  • Pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test

  • Legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Masters of Business Administration (MBA)

  • Prior experience with SAP

Crewmember Expectations:

  • Regular attendance and punctuality

  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice

  • Able to maintain a professional appearance

  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Must be an appropriate organizational fit for the JetBlue culture, that is, exhibit the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion and Fun

  • Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue’s Safety Management System

  • Promote JetBlue’s #1 value of safety as a Safety Ambassador, supporting JetBlue’s Safety Management System (SMS) components, Safety Policy, and behavioral standards

  • Identify safety and/or security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) and Safety Action Report (SAR))

  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls 

  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
