Director Legal Counsel
Position Summary:
JetBlue is seeking an experienced and business-oriented senior Counsel to join its Legal team. This role will provide legal support for a broad range of complex commercial transactions, with a focus on high-value corporate and operational arrangements. The ideal candidate will bring significant experience managing end-to-end deal execution, a strong grasp of aviation, regulatory and competition considerations, and the ability to translate legal risks into actionable business guidance.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Draft, negotiate, and advise on a wide range of commercial and corporate transactions.
- Lead legal aspects of strategic transactions and alliances.
- Advise internal clients on contract interpretation, risk allocation, and dispute avoidance/resolution.
- Manage legal due diligence, deal structuring, and closing for transactions.
- Coordinate with external counsel and internal stakeholders (e.g., Finance, Treasury, Tax, Risk, and Regulatory teams) to ensure alignment across departments.
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting aviation commercial transactions and recommend appropriate compliance and risk mitigation strategies.
- Develop and maintain contract templates, playbooks, and legal process improvements.
- Assist with training and mentoring junior legal team members.
- Support other legal matters or duties as assigned.
Minimum Experience and Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school.
- Admitted to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and in good standing.
- Seven (7) years of experience practicing law, including significant time at a top law firm and/or in-house legal department.
- Substantial experience handling complex commercial and asset-based transactions.
- Exceptional negotiation, drafting, and project management skills.
- Strong business judgment and ability to provide practical, solution-oriented advice.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Available for minimal to moderate overnight travel, including for closings and key partner negotiations (30%).
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located.
- Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
- Experience in the aviation, transportation, or aerospace industry.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks relevant to commercial aviation.
- Working knowledge of sustainability-related contract provisions, and modern procurement trends.
Crewmember Expectations:
- Regular attendance and punctuality.
- Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short notice.
- Able to maintain a professional appearance.
- When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft.

- Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue’s Safety Management System.

- Identify safety and security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) and Safety Action Report (SAR)).
- Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls.
- Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities.
- The use of ChatGPT or any other automated tool during the interview process will disqualify a candidate from being considered for the position.

Compensation:
- The base pay range for this position is between $190,000.00 and $230,000.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include performance bonuses, restricted stock units, as well as access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
