Position Summary:

The Director Flight Operations Planning and Analytics partners with the Vice President Flight Operations to support the business and labor relations administration for Flight Operations. The Director leads the Flight Operations budget administration, acts as the primary interface with the ALPA grievance administrator, collaborates with Operational Planning to develop a Flight Operations staffing model and other duties as assigned by the Vice President Flight Operations.


The Director Flight Operations Planning and Analytics is a key member of the Flight Operations team that is dedicated to JetBlue’s overall business strategy and promoting our core values while partnering with all other functional operating departments. Essential Responsibilities:

  • Create and oversee Flight Operations operating budget while ensuring alignment to Flight Operations strategy.
  • Lead the Flight Operations Administration team that is responsible for running the day-to-day business activities of Flight Operations
  • Provide analytical support to the VP Flight Operations:
    • Forecasting
    • Budget & cost analysis
    • Hotel modeling
    • Business case development
    • Process development
  • Coordinate and collaborate with Operations Planning and the Commercial Team to help develop a flight operations staffing model
  • Implement the staffing model for the Flight Operations workgroup and interface with Crew Services to track pilot labor costs and budget variance
  • Interface with Talent Acquisition and JBU to ensure pilot staffing needs are met
  • In coordination with Ops Planning and Analysis, develop, manage and maintain operations dashboards & reporting systems
  • Represent Flight Operations as a member of pilot labor contract negotiating team
  •  Act as VP Designee for grievance administration in accordance with the pilot CBA
  • Lead cross-functional Flight Operations projects and/or policy development in partnership with key stakeholders
  • Administer and track the use of Project Pilots within the JetBlue organization in accordance with staffing and budgetary requirements
  • Collaborate with other business areas in improving communication and teamwork to drive efficiencies
  • Act as a decision making participant of the Pilot Dispute Resolution Committee addressing Flight crewmember performance deviations working directly with the People department
  • Take a significant role in the development of crewmembers to support the engagement, growth, goal achievement and development of the succession plan and for the department
  • Represent Flight Operations as a member of Emergency Command Center and the Crisis Management Team aiding in the establishment of organizational situational awareness, decision making and event resolution process.
  • Identify and recall JetBlue’s Safety Management System (SMS), Safety Policy, Security Policy and behavioral standards
  • Other duties as assigned



Minimum Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant experience.
  • Seven (7) years’ experience with a Part 121 carrier (or equivalent military experience) in various roles, to include such areas as FAA Compliance, Operations Specifications, Project Management, Compliance, and Certificate Actions
  • Five (5) years’ experience in a Leadership or project management role
  • Knowledge of the different airline disciplines and administration including the interdependencies on Flight Operations
  • Knowledge of external agencies and their function as it related to Flight Operations (i.e. FAA, DOT)
  • Valid Passport with the ability to travel in and out of the United States
  • ·Available for moderate overnight travel (30%)
  • Able to pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
  • Legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located



Experiences Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree in Aviation Management, Labor Relations, Law, Business or a related field
  • Knowledge of System Operations and schedules
  • Managing a budget
  • Making a Flight Operations related presentation to all levels of an organization including senior leadership
  • Working with labor and labor related issues/concerns
  • Advising leaders and Pilots on Flight Operations related topics including best practices
  • Demonstrating knowledge of JetBlue Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) adherence
  • Acting as a project manager on a full project or initiative

  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue’s Safety Management System

  • Identify safety concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report(SAR)
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
