Position Title: Director Airport Optimization

Position Summary

JetBlue is looking for a Director Airline Optimization to be based at JetBlue’s Support Center in Long Island City, NY. The Airline Optimization team is responsible for understanding and quantifying the effects of the Network on the Operation, and vice versa. The Airline Optimization team will then support planning decisions across the company to maximize the airline’s end-to-end profitability and operational robustness.


The team’s short-term responsibilities include helping to optimize schedules and operational targets, and working across teams to prepare the schedule for deployment. Longer-term responsibilities focus on helping closely align JetBlue’s network plan with its operational footprint.


The ideal Director candidate will have extensive experience in the airline industry, with a deep understanding of both commercial and operational airline functions. The Director will oversee a Manager and a team of Analysts, each quantifying the impact of upstream decisions on different parts of the operation, and will need to precisely value trade-offs across each. From there, the Director will be responsible for translating their team’s work into robust business insights for senior JetBlue leadership, and, based on feedback, will help support accountability across work groups responsible for execution.


To execute the above responsibilities, the ideal candidate will deeply understand how upstream decisions cascade across commercial & operational functions, and have strong interpersonal and communication skills to deliver these insights.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Set priorities for the Airline Optimization team and own execution of key deliverables
  • Oversee work to size the relative impact of planning changes across different commercial & operational functions, including how these decisions impact profitability and operability across the business
  • Generate clear, implementable recommendations supported by robust business insights and operational/ network input, and present them to senior leadership in executive decision forums
  • Align priorities across different work groups to help build plans that work for everyone and are high-impact for the business
  • Build deep relationships and trust with commercial & operational leadership, and support their success
  • Help drive accountability amongst operational and commercial leadership for agreed-upon priorities
  • As needed, support other critical commercial & operational priorities as they arise
  • Take a significant role in the development of crewmembers to support the engagement, growth, and goal achievement
  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Mathematics, Finance or related field; or demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant experience
  • Seven (7) years analytical experience in related field such as network planning, operations planning, network optimization, or schedule optimization
  • Five (5) years leadership experience in related field such as network planning, operations planning, network optimization, or schedule optimization
  • Excellent communication skills across different organizational levels and across different departments
  • Familiarity with airline schedule production tools and processes
  • Strong airline business acumen
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (10%)
  • Must pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located


Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Business, Economics, Mathematics, Finance or related field
  • ·Three (3) years leadership experience in network planning, operations planning, network optimization, or schedule optimization function
  • Experience in presenting to senior leadership, and working cross-functionally with multiple senior leaders from across an organization


Crewmember Expectations:

  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Available for moderate overnight travel (10-15%)
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft
  • Must be an appropriate organizational fit for the JetBlue culture, that is, exhibit the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion and Fun
  • Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue’s Safety Management System
  • Promote JetBlue’s #1 value of safety as a Safety Ambassador, supporting JetBlue’s Safety Management System (SMS) components, Safety Policy and behavioral standards
  • Identify safety concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report(SAR))
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
