Title:  Controller Air Traffic System

Position Summary

The Controller, Air Traffic Systems is responsible for the operational integrity of the schedule from an Air Traffic Control (ATC) perspective.  The Controller, Air Traffic Systems partners with the Systems Controller and our Meteorology Business Partner to take a proactive approach to managing and developing Air Traffic System plans to mitigate delays to JetBlue Airways’ schedule and improve the overall performance of the airline.  The Controller, Air Traffic Systems is the main point of contact between JetBlue Airways and the Air Traffic Control System Command Center (ATCSCC).

Essential Responsibilities

  • Oversees the continuous monitoring of all Air Traffic Management Initiatives for delay mitigation and increased system efficiencies.
  • Anticipates where Air Traffic disruptions may occur and works to maintain, reduce, mitigate and/or eliminate delays and other restrictions imposed on JetBlue Airways.
  • Engages regularly with the FAA, Airport Authorities, IATA, A4A and other airlines to achieve the optimum air traffic configurations and performance while safely advocating on behalf of JetBlue Airways through the CDM (collaborative decision making) processes.
  • Advises company leadership of all Air Traffic Control irregularities system wide.
  • Daily function includes participation on all ATCSCC conference calls and other government agencies.
  • Maintain a continuous liaison with Air Traffic Control facilities to stay abreast of real-time changing Air Traffic Control environments.
  • Partners with other System Control departments to produce the most efficient operating plan.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Diploma and Valid FAA Aircraft Dispatcher or Commercial Pilot and/or Air Traffic Control Certification OR Bachelor's Degree in Meteorology
  • Three (3) years of airline operations experience
  • Ability to work under pressure in a team environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Available for occasional and overnight travel (5-10%)
  • Must pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
    Preferred Experience and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation or related major
  • Five (5) years of airline operations experience with two (2) of those years in a leadership role
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite
  • Knowledge of the Sabre System
  • Strong analytical abilities and interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized and focused with the ability to prioritize tasks

  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Well-groomed and able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Identify safety concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report(SAR))
  • Adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls * Upholding JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understanding how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
  • Computer and other office equipment

Work Environment:

  • A flexible work schedule is required to cover the operation during hours outside of the regular assigned shift
  • Shift work is required
