Position Summary

The Quality Assurance Investigator conducts investigations of significant events (i.e, quality escapes, accidents, incidents and occurrences) that occur within Tech Ops and associated JetBlue Business Partners to support the Event Analysis Program as part of JetBlue’s Continuing Analysis Surveillance System (CASS) Program.  The Quality Assurance Investigator will report track and trend relevant significant events / quality escapes, track recommendations and corrective actions resulting from all assigned Tech Ops investigations. 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Identify & manage all assigned Tech Ops significant events.
  • Conduct Investigations of assigned significant events, quality escapes, accidents, incidents and occurrences throughout Tech Ops organization and associated JetBlue Business Partners.
  • Facilitate accurate root cause determination; and when required, effective corrective action plans to mitigate risks.
  • Provide extensive internal/external coordination and communication with appropriate JetBlue teams and associated JetBlue business partners.  
  • Conduct post significant events/quality escape investigations and prepare reports identifying possible root causes, hazards, ineffective risk controls. 
  • Assist in compliance reviews, general/safety risk assessments and other assessments to support Tech Ops and Safety management.
  • Coordinate & liaise with Tech Ops & Safety Leadership, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) & similar agencies, aircraft manufacturers, JetBlue business partners & operators during investigations as required.
  • Ensure investigation findings and reports are factual & accurate in support of JetBlue Leadership, decision makers, and involved parties.
  • Support the JetBlue CASS as required by providing technical leadership in your area of expertise to complement the Safety Management System (SMS) design, maintenance and risk analysis.
  • Responds promptly & manages Tech Ops significant event / quality escape investigations related in the JetBlue Event Management System and applicable internal databases.
  • Produce daily, weekly, monthly and annual reports as necessary and directed by the Manager Quality Assurance/CASS.
  • Maintain records of all investigation records in accordance with the JetBlue CASS Manual.
  • Analyzes data from significant events, quality escapes, self-assessments, inspections and investigations to identify trends and recommend corrective actions.
  • Perform periodic Follow-Up evaluations on corrective actions to ensure implementation and effectiveness.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Diploma
  • Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant Certificate
  • Four (4) years of commercial aircraft (14 CFR Part 121 Air Carrier) Maintenance, Quality Control, Quality Assurance or applicable Military experience
  • Thorough working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations
  • Formal safety, accident or related investigation training
  • Demonstrated ability to research and draft program policies, procedures, correspondence, technical reports and manuals
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Available for short notice overnight travel (<50%) and extended periods of time
  • Must be in possession of valid travel documents with the ability to travel in and out of the United States
  • Ability to qualify and maintain Technical Operations skills, qualifications and training through JetBlue University (JBU) and/or business partner training
  • Able to perform under pressure and within fixed time constraints
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge
  • Depending on location, may need to acquire and maintain a United States Customs Clearance
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License and a driving record from the state of your primary residence that meets JetBlue Airways insurance standards
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science – Mechanical, Aeronautical, Maintenance Management or Similar
  • Two (2) years of aviation significant event (investigation) analysis experience
  • Three (3) years of airline technical investigations
  • Understanding of aircraft continued airworthiness maintenance programs and/or certification requirements
  • Previous Aircraft Systems & Troubleshooting Training
  • Experience working with NTSB, FAA or another equivalent regulatory agency
  • Experience in Event Management & Maintenance and Engineering (M&E) Software Systems or other related programs

  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Identify safety and/or security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report (SAR))
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities

  • Computer and other office equipment
  • Personal Protective Equipment, as required
  • Airport operations equipment (Forklift, Aircraft Tug, Line Maintenance Vehicles, etc.)

Work Environment:

  • Traditional office environment
  • Airport environment to include ramp and hangar environment

Physical Effort:  

  • Light physical activity required by handling objects up to fifty (50) pounds <25%, occasionally with the assistance of other people or tools and be in a position where bending, crouching, kneeling, etc. is needed.

Compensation: 

  • The base pay range for this position is between $66,300.00 and $110,00.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
