Position Summary

The Structures Engineer is responsible for engineering activity related to aircraft structures, related components, interior and furnishings on the Airbus and Embraer aircraft. The Engineer will support Line and Heavy maintenance and modification of Airbus and Embraer aircraft.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop and issue detailed work instructions and engineering drawings to accomplish minor and major aircraft structure repairs
  • Develop and issue engineering authorization to accomplish modifications and alterations to aircraft structures, components and accessories
  • Evaluate damaged aircraft structure, parts and provide solutions beyond the applicable manual limitation in accordance with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the original equipment manufacturer requirements
  • Review aircraft problems and resolve these problems into various engineering modification and/or repair documents
  • Provide engineering assistance to Line Maintenance and repair business partners repair organization to facilitate aircraft operations, repairs and/or maintenance
  • Perform stress analysis, damage assessments, repairs, and modification designs
  • Develop engineering procedures, standards and process specification to comply with manufacturer/vendors Service Bulletins, Airworthiness Directives and other FAA requirements
  • Coordinate engineering functions with regulatory agencies as required for approval for major repairs and alterations including the completion and forwarding of documents to support such approvals
  • Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting support to various departments in support of the day-to-day operation
  • All other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant work experience
  • Three (3) years of engineering experience in aviation
  • Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) governing aircraft certification and maintenance
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong analytical abilities
  • Currently in possession of a valid passport or equivalent with ability to travel in and out of the United States
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge
  • Depending upon location, may need to possess and maintain a valid Driver License and a driving record that meets JetBlue Airways’ insurance standards
  • Depending on location, may need to acquire and maintain a United States Customs Clearance
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (10%)
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

 

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant Certificate
  • Three (3) years of diversified experience on transport category aircraft with the ability to work with and understand maintenance manuals, maintenance programs, and reliability programs
  • Background in aircraft structures, including but not limited to, Empennage, Flight Control Surfaces, Landing Gear, Doors, Fuselage, Pylon/Nacelle, and Wings
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite and Project
  • Proficient in developing modifications and repairs to primary and secondary aircraft structures
  • Previous experience in planning, implementing and administering engineering programs and projects
  • Able to communicate technical issues in an assertive and tactful manner
  • Reliability analysis skills to identify root cause of systems problems
  • Ability to manage and coordinate several tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Able to interact with a wide range of customer groups both internal and external
  • Project management skills

  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Work flexible hours including shift, weekend, holidays and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls
  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understanding how they relate to their duties and responsibilities

Work Environment:

  • Irregular work shifts, on-call, and multiple work locations
  • Hangar Environment

 

Physical Effort: 

  • Light physical effort required by handling objects up to 20 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.  (Light)

 

Compensation: 

  • The base pay range for this position is between $72,000.00 and $118,400.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
