Position Overview

Gateway Select is an innovative talent pathway for those seeking to become pilots at JetBlue. This particular Gateway Program will allow an applicant, if successful, to learn with us from the beginning and become a JetBlue pilot after completing a rigorous training program.

 

This unique, accessible and cost effective JetBlue Pilot Gateway Program will take a more competency-based approach to becoming a professional pilot. The Program will optimize the training of prospective airline pilots by offering early exposure to multi-crew/multi-engine operations, full motion simulator training, crew resource management, and threat and error management. Once meeting all program requirements, including the FAA's 1,500 flight-hour requirement, pilots will become a new hire at JetBlue. At that time, graduates will go through the same orientation and six-week instruction that all first officers complete.

 

If accepted into the program, students follow a multi-phase training sequence over the course of three to four years.

  1. Foundation Course: Introduction to JetBlue and flying
  2. Primary Training: Private Pilot through Commercial Multi-Engine Certificate
  3. Airline Preparation Course: Jet training at JetBlue University
  4. Instructor Training: CFI/CFII Training
  5. Employment with CAE as a Flight Instructor
  6. New Hire Training as a JetBlue First Officer

 

Minimum Experience and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Must be 23 years old by the completion of the approximate 3.5-year program.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Must successfully complete an assessment battery measuring personality, cognitive aptitude, and coordination.
  • Must successfully complete and pass a structured interview.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a First-Class Medical Certificate.
  • Must be able to obtain a valid passport with the ability to travel in and out of the United States by the end of training.
  • Must pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test prior to hire
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.

 

Crewmember Expectations:

  • Regular attendance and punctuality
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Well-groomed and able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers and business partners are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft
  • Must be an appropriate organizational fit for the JetBlue culture, that is, exhibit the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion and Fun

 

Equipment:

  • Computer and other classroom equipment
  • Tablet and other pilot items as required by training partner
  • Piston aircraft and applicable simulation devices

 

Work Environment:

  • Normal Classroom Environment
  • Airports Environment
  • Hangar
  • Normal cockpit and ramp exposure per FAA required Pilot duties
  • Non-traditional hours, shifts cover flight training schedule which operates twenty four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week.   
  • Must be available for any schedule.  

 

Physical Effort:  

  • Light physical effort required by handling objects up to 20 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.  (Light)
