Position Summary

The Manager, Accounting manages various accounting functions including overseeing general ledger postings, financial statement close process, account reconciliations, analysis of budget versus actual, internal and external financial reporting, as well as ensuring internal controls are properly maintained. The Manager also is responsible for ensuring successful implementation of new revenue initiatives, including accounting process and policy development, contract review, technical accounting research, systems testing etc. In addition, this Manager supervises and directs the activities of accountants. The Manager will work closely with the JetBlue Finance team to ensure timely reporting and adherence to corporate policies and procedures. The ideal Manager demonstrates strong accounting knowledge, communication and leadership skills, while managing the day-to-day operations of these functions to meet Paisly related accounting and compliance obligations and to minimize liabilities. 

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Oversee internal financial reporting needs and prepare internal monthly financial statements, including cash flow statements and financial reporting to support JetBlue’s internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and review accruals.
  • Perform analysis and reconciliations of general ledger accounts.
  • Assist with budgets and ongoing forecast variance analysis.
  • Prepare and manage accounting and financial policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, document and develop new procedures when required.
  • Ensure systems are properly tested and compliant with any accounting and reporting needs when new revenue initiatives are implemented.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements.
  • Research items of a technical nature to determine proper accounting treatment and presentation supported by technical accounting memorandums.
  • Research, analyze and conclude on the proper accounting treatment of new revenue sources and initiatives.
  • Review contracts with an ability to understand contract terms, translate them into the appropriate application of U.S. GAAP, and provide feedback to contract business owner.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors, providing audit deliverables as needed.
  • Foster a team environment and collaborate with other internal departments and external business partners.
  • Supervise a team of accountants.
  • Take a significant role in the development of crewmembers to support their engagement, growth, and goal achievement.   
  • Other complex projects and duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree; OR demonstrated capability through equivalent experience, such as a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant work experience.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in accounting roles, including public accounting and/or with a public company.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent certification.
  • Proven understanding of accounting theory and United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to effectively provide and communicate accounting/financial guidance.
  • Previous experience with supervising others.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient analytical and interpretive skills.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Capable of working independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to provide clear and concise summation.
  • Available for occasional overnight travel.
  • Must pass a ten (10) year background check.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located.
  • Authorization to work in the US is required, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

 

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and database applications.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite.
  • Previous airline industry experience.
  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter who possesses a sense of urgency and an ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with shifting demands.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with system implementations and/or major system enhancements

 

 Crewmember Expectations:

  • Regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond at short notice.
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance.
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft.
  • Must be an appropriate organizational fit for the JetBlue culture, that is, exhibit the JetBlue values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion and Fun.
