Position Summary

The Data Science & Analytics team at JetBlue is an integral part of the IT Data organization which reports directly to the Chief Digital & Technology Officer due to the strategic importance of Data at JetBlue. The Data Science & Analytics team consists of Operations Data Science (ODS), Commercial Data Science (CDS), Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning (ML) engineering, and Business Intelligence teams operating in a center-of-excellence model reporting to the Senior Manager, Data Science & Analytics. The teams develop advanced Data products and insights for all cross-functional teams at JetBlue including up/cross-skilling the internal analyst community.

 

The Manager, Business Intelligence leads a team of Business Intelligence Developers who support our enterprise business intelligence solution and develop new analytical reports and dashboards to help solve JetBlue’s most complex commercial, operational and systems challenges.

 

The Manager will be responsible for maintaining production-grade analytical pipelines, developing new real-time dashboards for senior leadership and promoting analytical best practices across the JetBlue analyst community. The Manager works in an entrepreneurial role, building the team, analytical products and vision of Business Intelligence at JetBlue from the ground up. The Manager of Business Intelligence reports to the Senior Manager, IT Data Science & Analytics.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Recruit and lead a motivated team of Business Intelligence Developers who focus on large scale deployment and integration analytical products within time, latency and budget constraints
  • Collaborate with business, engineering, infrastructure and data science teams to translate their needs or challenges into production-grade data pipelines for batch and real-time streaming dashboards
  • Oversee and guide the development and integration of Business Intelligence technology stack through common tools, robust data pipelines, reporting standards­, effective stakeholder management and documentation
  • Design and implement architecture for an end-to-end analytical dashboards and data discovery catalog tailored for JetBlue analysts and leaders
  • Effectively communicate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), reporting architectures, data stories and accurate analytics outputs with partners
  • Build strong relationships with new and existing external Business Partners
  • Define strategical improvements in process, including but not limited to introducing new technology products, revamping existing architecture and/or reprioritizing tasks based on Crewmember needs
  • Play a significant role in the development of Crewmembers to support their day-to-day work, engagement, growth, and goals
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and advancements in Business Intelligence and identify opportunities for the team to implement new reporting tools and analytics technologies
  • Ensure that all analytics and reporting dashboards meet ethical and legal requirements, and comply with data privacy and security policies
  • Take a significant role in the development of crewmembers to support their engagement, growth, and goal achievement by establishing clear performance expectations and accountability for Crewmembers    
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or a quantitative discipline; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant work experience
  • Five (5) years of relevant industry experience
  • Proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Experience building Business Intelligence teams including efficient reporting architectures based on industry best-practices with ability to make contributions to and peer review of JetBlue internal analytics standards
  • Able to write production-grade SQL queries and be familiar with analytics best practices, including testing, version control and dashboard publishing frameworks by working closely with internal Data teams
  • Ability to communicate their findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to successfully complete technical interviews in areas of Business Intelligence analytics, statistics, SQL and management case studies
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (10%)
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in computer science or a quantitative discipline
  • Five (5) years of relevant industry and management experience
  • Experience applying various analytics techniques such as: Batch query processing; Real-time streaming query processing; Extract, Transform, Load (ETL)/ELT; query optimization; storytelling dashboards; creating reporting templates; time-series reporting; geospatial reporting and more
  • Experience using Databricks, Snowflake, Python, PySpark, Azure Cloud, Tableau, Streamlit, Data Build Tool (DBT)

  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue’s Safety Management System

  • Identify safety and/or security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report (SAR))
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls 
  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities

Compensation: 

  • The base pay range for this position is between $118,800.00 and $177,100.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include performance bonuses, restricted stock units, as well as access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
